The Wheel of Dhamma Rotates Around the World

$45.00

This book takes its readers on a journey through history, providing an overview and history of the many Vipassana centers operating all around the world.

Today, as evidenced by the large number of centers described in the following pages, Vipassana has become established in the world. Every day there are literally dozens of courses worldwide going on simultaneously in these centers. People of all religions, colors and nationalities sit together feeling the comfort and protection of a Vipassaana Meditation center, and learn to experience the nature of reality within themselves.

The stories of these centers are not just pictures in a book, but show a river in motion – the flow of Dhamma as it spreads throughout the world. They show how Dhamma returned, after two millennia, to India, and from there spread all around the world, today covering ninety countries on six continents.

Description

This book takes its readers on an unprecedented journey through history, providing an overview and history of the many Vipassana centers operating all around the world.

Some Vipassana centers took many years to reach their functional capacity, whereas some started working just to accommodate a visit from Goenkaji. What appeared as a miracle to some was actually the result of hard work and at times almost single-handed efforts. Usually there was a shortage of funds, no trained volunteer “Dhamma servers”, and inadequate facilities for the initial courses. Yet despite all these difficulties, Dhamma prevailed, giving strength, confidence and inspiration to all the pioneers.

Just as Goenkaji expresses enormous gratitude towards his teacher Sayagyi U Ba Khin, and towards Myanmar where Vipassana was maintained in its purity, so also his students have developed enormous gratitude towards their teacher Goenkaji, who inspired the development of all the centers in this book, and towards India, the land of the Buddha.

Dhamma started helping people from all walks of life. Whether doctors or engineers, businessmen or laborers, army officers or ordinary persons, they were attracted by Dhamma, got established in it, and helped spread it by establishing centers.

At the end of the courses, these people go back to their families and live as changed persons. They become ambassadors of Dhamma, telling others about their wonderful experiences and the beneficial changes that have occurred in their lives as a result. All this is possible because of the establishment and continued nourishment of the network of Vipassana centers around the world.

The stories of these centers are not just pictures in a book, but show a river in motion – the flow of Dhamma as it spreads throughout the world. They show how Dhamma returned, after two millennia, to India, and from there spread all around the world, today covering ninety countries on six continents.
